The Neumann TLM 103 has quickly become one of the biggest successes in Neumann’s history. Its pristine, clear sound is a modern update on the classic U87. . The extremely quiet self-noise of the TLM 103 is regarded a milestone until today. In technical terms: a noise level of just 7 dB(A). In other words: the TLM-103 is so low noise that even the faintest nuances become audible. Thus, it is TLM-series by Neumann Large Diaphragm condenser microphone perfectly suited for vocals and audio drama productions in high definition as well as for demanding samples production and instrumental recordings.
The TLM103 has quickly become one of the biggest successes in Neumann’s history. Its pristine, clear sound is a modern update on the classic U87. The Neumann-103 microphone is a transformerless cardioid condenser microphone with a gentle presence boost for a stunningly direct sound with breathtaking definition and ultra low noise.
The TLM-103 by neumann is equipped with a large diaphragm capsule with cardioid pattern. By focusing on this pattern - used in most recording situations - the attenuation of unwanted rear sound has been optimized. Off-axis sounds are rendered naturally while isolation is increased. This also leads to a high feedback suppression when the microphone is used in live situations or where loudspeaker playback is a factor.
Our TLM series condenser microphone works with a transformer less output stage. This means: a clean and direct sound, very “close†to the acoustic source, and a powerful bass transmission all the way down to the lowest frequencies. Its transformer less output stage also makes the microphone resistant to electromagnetic fields and minimizes transmission losses. This also leads to a high feedback suppression when the microphone is used in live situations or where loudspeaker playback is a factor.
With just 7 dB-A / 17.5 dB CCIR the self-noise level of the TLM 103 is so reduced that even the smallest signals are reproduced basically noise-free. As it is capable of handling sound pressure levels up to 138 dB without distortion, the Neumann-TLM103 studio set microphone provides a dynamic range of 131 dB, according to DIN/IEC 651.The letters TLM stand for "transformerless microphone". With TLM technology the usual output transformer is replaced by an electronic circuit.
The Neumann mic TLM-103 large diaphram microphone is new standard for home recording and the music industry. By utilizing the tried and true transformerless circuit found in numerous Neumann microphones, the TLM 103 features yet unattained low self-noise and the highest sound pressure level transmission. The capsule, derived from that used in the U 87, has a cardioid pattern, is acoustically well-balanced and provides extraordinary attenuation of signals from the rear.
Neumann at the front is set apart with the red Neumann logo on its mouthpiece body. Its large diaphragm capsule is designed on the basis of K 87. This leads to a flat frequency reproduction of up to about 5 kHz, and above that, a wide flat 4 dB boost. the Neumann 103 condenser microphonekeeps up an amazing motivation reaction and recreates the subtleties of music and discourse without hue. even the littlest signs are imitated exactly the same, free from distortion.
The letters TLM signify "Transformer less microphone". With TLM development, the run of the transformer is superseded by an electronic circuit. Neumann TLM 103 doesn’t use regular transformers as it might hinder RF block that may affect the sensible audio signal. The Neumann-TLM studio set microphone is addressed from the front, marked with the red Neumann logo on the microphone body. The K 103 large diaphragm capsule is based on the K 87.
