As any hi-fi enthusiast knows, there's no shortage of compelling speakers these days. But its beauty is only revealed when the sound isn't right. Luckily, the KEF R11 Floorstanding Speaker, the flagship of the venerable British brand's midsize R-series, packs smart tech for great sound into a beautiful package and comes at a lower price than you might expect. Sitting above the entry-level Q-series and below the reference series, the R-series was first launched in 2011 but is now a new version for 2018. With the latest model, the midrange is his Redesigned with Signature of R-series speaker.
The R-11s pair 3-way bass reflex floor standing speakers that feature the same Uni-Q concentric array found in the Reference and Blade speakers: a 5-inch midrange driver and a 1-inch vented aluminium dome tweeter. I'm here. It also features a tangerine waveguide for improved high frequency dispersion. This latest version of his Uni-Q coaxial array is surrounded by a "shadow flare" trim ring that enhances the waveguide effect.Â
The unique Uni-Q Point Source, now in its twelfth version, has long been KEF's R 11 crown jewel, in this case literally the centrepiece. In this D'Appolito configuration, it's sandwiched between four 6.5-inch pieces of aluminium (paper and hybrid). Woofers, 2 above and 2 below Uni-Q. Uni-Q driver arrays are identified by name in small gray letters on the front panel.Â
Another way R-11 by KEF Speakers has reduced cabinet resonance is by returning it to an undesirable kind of colouring (acoustic kind). This is a rework of the cabinet's internal bracing layout, construction and damping system. For a purer, more neutral presentation. KEF manufactures both its own enclosures and drivers, resulting in greater design flexibility, innovation and ultimately more options for customers
The KEF R11 loudspeaker is inherently designed to provide a kind of purity or neutrality to the sound, often revealing finer details to improve accuracy and realism. This is an attribute not routinely found in budget kef tower speakers like these. They also seem to work well with a wide variety of amplifiers and home theater setups. But even top-down coherence and scatter are believed to come to mind. It helped make the speakers sound more like the music itself instead of the speakers sounding like speakers and the drivers sounding like a box that shoots out sound waves
The R series speaker doesn't need a fancy room to work its magic. A pleasing presence - both acoustically and aesthetically - amazing realism and consistency between drivers, excellent value for money... R-11 has a lot to offer. They're popular and sell like the proverbial hotcake for good reason: get them while they're hot!
